State machinery is being misused for electioneering, alleges BJP

ITANAGAR, Apr 02: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal unit today alleged ruling Congress of using state machinery in the election process.

Addressing the press persons at BJP office, party president Tai Tagak informed that on 31st March party had lodged official complaint to Chief Electoral Officer C B Kumar with concrete proof regarding misuse of state machinery but till date there has been no action in this regard.

“We want to ask CEO why there is no response to our complaint. The election commission should also look into the allegation that chopper, govt. vehicles are being used by Congress party to ferry money. We are also getting to hear that in all the 11 assembly constituencies where Congress won unopposed, ASMs are being paid huge money to indulge in vote capturing. These serious allegations should be proved by election observers at the earliest,” said Tagak. Further he added, “Everybody is aware that UG group tries to influence voting in districts like Tirap, Changlang and Longding. It’s been reported that people carrying AK 47 are moving around carrying cash in the vehicle.                          The election commission should take note of this development and deploy army so that election process is held peacefully without fear.”  BJP also alleged that just before assembly was dissolved entire bank of capital went cashless and later Rs 1500 crore was flown in chopper from outside. “After this incident, 11 Congress candidates won uncontested. Now it’s for public to make guess,” added Tai Tagak. BJP president also claimed that ruling Congress violated model code of conduct as Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in principle have agreed to give chairman posts to many candidates including two from BJP, who withdraw nomination paper.

BJP also informed that court case has been initiated against decision of returning officer of 12th Pakke Kessang, 39-Mebo and 15th Sagalee assembly constituency who declared Congress candidates’ winner unopposed. Party chief further clarified that BJP has no alliance with NPF in Arunachal and alliance is limited to Nagaland only. “We may go for post poll alliance with PPA if situation arise. But we want to make it clear that BJP has no any alliance with NPF. We are opposed to the idea of greater Nagalim as it will compromise territorial integrity of state,” stated BJP president.

Forget the past, start a new beginning: Tuki

ITANAGAR: Apr 02: In a BJP-challenging mood, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today ventured into one of the bastions of the Saffron Party and appealed people to choose the Congress nominee for development that has visibly remained stagnant for the last five years.

Pasighat West Assembly constituency that comprises Ruksin and adjoining areas bordering Assam in East Siang district has been one of the few constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh represented by a BJP candidate. This time around though, the incumbent BJP representative, physician-turned-politician, Dr Tangor Tapak faces a stiff challenge from a first-timer, engineer-turned-politician, Er Tatung Jamoh, the Congress nominee.

The challenge got stiffer with hundreds responding positively to the Chief Minister’s appeal.

“There must be very good reason for Jamoh to leave an enviable job of an engineer to fight elections for the first time. If the people’s confidence and support is not with him, he would have never left his job,” Tuki observed and predicted an overwhelming victory for Jamoh.

He expressed regret that Ruksin and adjoining areas couldn’t develop at par with other parts of the state with a BJP representative at the helm but assured that with Jamoh’s win the area would make up for the loss very fast. Tuki advised the electorates to forget the past and start a new beginning of development and prosperity by supporting the Congress.

Travelling by road from Pasighat to Ruksin, the Chief Minister congratulated the people of Ruksin for getting one of the best stretch of roads in the state connecting the district headquarters.

“This two-lane road from Pasighat to Ruksin is one of the best. But don’t think that it is the handiwork of BJP or its representative. It is the ruling Congress Government that constructed and completed the road in record time,” he said and assured that many more similar projects would come up in the area with the Congress coming back to power with an elected representative from Pasighat West.

Releasing the Congress party’s election manifesto, Tuki wondered aloud why the opposition parties were yet to come out with theirs.

“Might be that the opposition parties have nothing to give to the people. Or maybe they are reluctant to bear the expenses of compiling and printing their manifestos as they are confident that they are not going to win!” the Chief Minister said taking a dig at the opposition.

Ninong Ering, Congress nominee of the Arunachal East Parliamentary seat, took out his ire on BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi alleging him of intimidating the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

Referring to Modi’s address at a rally in Itanagar on Monday, Ering said a man proposing himself as the future Prime Minister of India should not have stooped so low to hit members of opposition parties below the belt.

“Who is Modi to intimidate the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh? He too is a Chief Minister of a state. Modi should know Arunachal Pradesh is not afraid of any Narendra Modi and the people will not accept any threat to their elected Chief Minister,” Ering said adding that come April 9, Arunachal Pradesh will give him a befitting reply.

Tuki and Ering later addressed a huge Congress rally at the heart of Pasighat town and sought re-election of Bosiram Siram, the Congress nominee for Pasighat East Assembly constituency.

The rally was joined by Nari-Koyu Assembly nominee Tako Dabi and party leaders.

In the afternoon, Tuki addressed another huge rally at Likabali (West Siang district) in favour of Jomde Kena, former Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly and the Congress nominee for Likabali Assembly constituency. The rally was also attended by Gojen Gadi, who is seeking re-election from the neighboring Basar Assembly constituency. (APCC Media Cell)

SUMA stages protest rally against NPF’s entry into state politics

ITANAGAR, Apr 02: Hundreds of SUMA activists took out a protest rally on motorcycles and cars from Nirjuli to IG Park to protest against the participation of NPF candidates in the simultaneous elections in the state. The rally was organized by the SUMA’s Capital Complex and Papum Pare units.

Later addressing the people at Akashdeep, SUMA president Biri Tabing termed the NPF’s political expansion as slow poison for the people of the state.  He argued that if NPF is truly concerns for the entire Mongloids of the North eastern states, why they are mounting towards neighbouring states with a single tribe from Nagaland.

“To convince the entire indigenous communities of Arunachal by expanding their political activities, NPF’s moral responsibility was to ensure that there will be no extortion to contractors, business communities, residents and Govt employees which has so long been an experienced and time tested phenomenon by the locals of the state specially in those districts of Tirap, Longding and Changlang,” he said.

Tabing further said, “If these illegal means of activities which has been deep-seated by NPF from end to end with NSCN, the eventuality in the coming days will be a grave and day to day occurrence getting bigger into the state capital, Itanagar.”

Therefore, he said, the current fielding of candidates in the state Assembly election is synonymously a kind of trading licence for the NPF which will lead them to enter into the grassroot level politics (Panchayat) and till then it would be easier for them to blackmail those poor and illiterate country people of remote Arunachal. Tabing stressed that NPF had promised not to participate in both the Assembly and the Lok Sabha election unless the nomenclature will not be changed, but they have not kept their words which he said indicates their ill political motive.

Stating that the political invasion of NPF is not only the concern of SUMA, Tabing said that the non-APSTs are also partially a victim of those extortion so far been allegedly carried out by the NSCN and asked them to raise their voice joining hands with SUMA against NPF.

Meanwhile, claiming that the SUMA members have burnt down the Bolero with Nagaland registration number which belonged to the NCP Central Observer, who is happened to be the NCP MLA from Nagaland, at a hotel premises, Itanagar today, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Arunachal Pradesh unit condemned the heinous acts of vandalism. “The act is despicable to say the least and since it was an unprovoked act, it amounts to a premeditated attempt on the part of the SUMA activists although it is fairly clear that the NPF and NCP are two different parties,” the party said in a release.

The lack of security at the Ashok Hotel speaks volumes of the kind of license being given to hotels around Itanagar and is a blot on the state, the NCP added.

The NCP, Arunachal Unit, urged upon the Election commission of India to take serious note of this incident and requests the law enforcing agencies to effectively curb this social menace by getting to the bottom of it, even if it involves some politically motivated underpinnings, the release said.

“The vehicle belongs to Mhonlemo Kikon, a NCP MLA from Nagaland who arrived here as general observer of his party,” Capital SP Seju P Kuruvilla said, adding that a case has been registered in this connection and five SUMA activists were arrested, a PTI report added.

Nato and Russia should respect each other’s sentiment

Nato today claimed that Russia has all the forces it needs on the border to invade Ukraine within the next three to five days.  Nato's top military commander while issuing warning described the situation at the border as "incredibly concerning". The Russian force has aircraft and helicopter support as well as field hospitals and electronic warfare capabilities available at the border. Ever since Russia annexed Ukrainian region of Crimea tension between West and Russia is at all time high with fear that Russia may invade Eastern Part of Ukraine which has sizeable Russian origin people.

This claim by Nato comes after Russia on Wednesday accused Nato of reverting to Cold War language by suspending all practical cooperation with Moscow the day before in protest at its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine. Nato also ordered military planners to draft measures to strengthen its defences and reassure nervous eastern European countries. Such kind of posture by both Nato and Russia will not benefit anyone and only ignite tension. Russia has been expressing deep concern over what it perceives as encircling by Nato after many former Soviet Republics joined US led block. Nato should shed such expansionist attitude and reassure Russia that it has no intention to hurt their interest. If such agreement is reached there is every possible chance that tension will be reduced at the earliest. On the other hand Russia should also respect sovereignty of countries like Ukraine and stop meddling in internal matter.
